"Her exquisitely beautiful sound is mesmerizing. It gets under the skin and leaves the listener wanting more".
-San Francisco Classical Voice, 2009

'I thought, this is one of the most beautiful voices I’ve heard in a lifetime of listening to beautiful voices'
-Gainesville Chronicle. 2007
"One of the most hauntingly beautiful moments for female chorus described the women’s work, while Lucretia’s attendants Bianca  and Lucia (Xi Wang) collaborated in wordless arioso. Wang’s “I often wonder” was a moment in which time stood still".
- Cincinnati Enquirer, 2010

BIOGRAPHY

Opera News praised XI WANG for her “exciting” rendition of "I am the wife of Mao Tse-Tung," from Nixon in China and she was featured in San Francisco Classical Voice. The Chinese soprano is emerging as an important new talent. After she moved back to Asia in 2014, she was frequently invited to perform with Hong Kong Philharmonic and Macao Youth Orchestra. In the summer of 2011, Ms. Wang joined the prestigious Merola program at San Francisco Opera as a young artist, where she sang scenes from Lucia di Lammermoor and Rigoletto. In May she appeared as a guest soloist at New York City Opera’s Annual Composer showcase concert “VOX” under the baton of Maestro George Manahan.

As a National semi-finalist at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2009, Xi Wang was noted as “a musician with impressive artistry and musicality.” Ms. Wang has collaborated with world class musicians, including composer Jake Heggie, Huang Ruo; conductor Carlo Rizzi, Patrick Summers, Kevin Murphy, Warren Jones, George Manahan, Johannes Debus, David Angus, Mark Gibson, Alastair Neale, Perry So, Xia Xiaotang, and Hu Yongyan; also shared the stage with Frederica von Stade, Kiri te Kanawa, Dai Yuqiang etc. Ms. Wang was invited and has performed with Cincinnati Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, New York City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, San Francisco Opera, and Cincinnati Chamber Opera.

During the 2013 season, Ms. Wang sang second orphan lady and covered Sophie of Der Rosenkavalier at Cincinnati Opera and portrayed Queen of the night in Die Zauberflöte in the main stage production at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. In the summer of 2012, she was featured as a young artist at Des Moines Metro Opera singing Zerlina in Don Giovanni and series of concerts. Other operatic roles that Ms. Wang sang professionally including Susanna and Barbarina from Le Nozze di Figaro, Gilda from Rigoletto, Liu from Turandot, Lucia from The Rape of Lucretia, Diane from Orpheus in the Underworld, Serpina from La Serva Padrona.

Among her awards, Ms. Wang was the first place winner of the Opera Columbus Competition; the East Bay Young Artist Vocal Competition; Fe Bland Scholarship Competition; Henry & Maria Young Artist Scholarship Competition; two time first place winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in the San Francisco District; winner of the Gerda Lissner International Competition; a Semifinalist in the 2009 Eleanor McCollum Competition at Houston Grand Opera, and first place at NATS Southern Regional.

On the concert stage, Ms. Wang has frequently appeared as guest solo soprano in the repertoires including Handel Messiah, Mozart Requiem, Mozart C Minor Mass, Mozart Missa Brenvis in B-flat, Haydn Lord Nelson Mass, Richard Strauss Op. 68 Brentano Lieder.

During her time as a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Ms. Wang worked as the Artistic Director and Conductor at a local Chinese choir. During her year, the choir participates in many choral festivals and competitions. Among those awards, including the Silver metal at International Choral Festival & Competition in 2013 at Louisville, Kentucky and Bronze metal at The 7th World Choir Game in 2012 at Cincinnati, OH.
